About Us

Kensington Stud was established in 2011. I had horses prior to this and had bred before but this is when we launched ourselves into show horses.
We decided to get into breeding galloways as show horses. I liked the idea of breeding something that was a versatile height while also being beautiful. Initially we looked at ASH, as we’d had both ASH and Riding Ponies in the past, but after seeing an ad for a beautiful Riding Pony galloway mare we settled with Riding Ponies and haven't looked back!!
Initially our aim was to breed smaller stallions over thoroughbred mares to breed saddle horses 14hh-15hh suitable for the show ring.
The bloodlines used in our breeding program have evolved over the past 10 years as has my preferred type and the Riding Pony breed as a whole. Bloodlines are such a personal thing, what works for one person won’t work for the next. Some people click with certain temperament lines while others don’t. There was a bit of trial and error when we started to work out what worked for us personally.
The immortal Keston Royal Occasion (imp) and his sire son Fairley Rembrandt (UK) are key to many of the lines we have used to date.
Our first stallion Langtree Mainstream was sired by Fairley Temptation (imp) who in turn was by Fairley Tempest (imp) who was by Fairley Rembrandt (UK) (KRO).
Following on from Langtree Mainstream was the foundation of our current stud - Lanieres who is sired by Fairley Rembrandt (UK). Her son Kensington Royal Red and Blue is our current stud sire, he carries a double cross of Fairley Rembrandt. His direct sire line traces back to Rembrandt as well as being the broodmare sire through Lanieres.
Other sires used include Urubula Regal Promise (Rotherwood Footlight (imp)). The Regal Promises have a lovely front and beautiful big movement. We have owned a number of mares by him and are always happy with what they produce.
Royalwood Boy Soprano who also hails from the Keston Royal Occasion sire line through Sandbourne Royal Ensign features in our bloodlines. We currently have a number of fillies by him to breed from later on.
It also goes without saying that I love a good thoroughbred, and the thoroughbred cross riding pony is our favourite cross.
We are focussing on infusing our best bloodlines right through the stud. We have been improving on our type over the past decade. We have improved our type to the point where we are consistently breeding top of the line quality animals.
Lanieres deliberately features throughout our stud, we have two daughters and a son from her in our breeding program. She is out of the Crane Trophy Winner Cartier. Lanieres is a maternal sister to the dam of National Galloway Royal Opera. Depth of performance throughout the line.
We look forward to developing and improving on her lines and then eventually breeding those lines back over thoroughbred mares.
Kensington Royal Red and Blue has been successful in his first two seasons at stud siring very true to type riding pony foals. He puts his ‘stamp’ on them consistently which is something we like to see from a stallion. We anticipate he will have a successful career at our stud and for others.

We are also using outside stallions to compliment our own lines.

We have a number of ponies on the point of being shown and look forward to seeing many of them out in the show ring over the next few years.
